About the Assessor

The Town Assessor is appointed by the Town Board for a term of six years.

The Assessor’s duties are specified in New York State Real Property Tax Law by maintaining accurate records of real property ownership and physical data. The assessor analyzes the real estate sales and transactions within the town of Brighton to fairly distribute the total tax burden across all property owners by determining up to date assessed values that are reflective of the current market. This ensures that no property owner pays more or less than their fair share of the tax levy. The assessor is responsible for determining the eligibility of exemptions, reviews the transfer of real property, the administration of grievance & tax certiorari process and the continuous management of the towns real property valuation database.
